Dr. Ruff is a native of Dallas. He obtained his undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University, and his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He subsequently completed his residency and fellowship training at Duke University in North Carolina. Afterwards, he served four years in the military where he was on the teaching staff at the Air Force’s primary teaching hospital at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio. He then returned home to Dallas in 1987, and has been practicing at the Dallas Allergy and Asthma Center since. In addition to direct patient care, Dr. Ruff is an active clinical researcher and professional educator.
Dr. Ruff is board certified in both Pediatrics and Allergy-Immunology. He is a member and past chairman of the Public Education Committee of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. He is a Clinical Associate Professor in Allergy at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, and has been a past recipient of the Outstanding Teacher Award in the allergy-immunology fellowship training program there. He has been recognized on a yearly basis as one of the “Best Doctors” in Dallas in D Magazine since the inception of this annual survey.
Dr. Ruff and his wife have one daughter (who is “all grown up and moved away”) and one big lovable yellow Labrador Retriever (who is still “in residence”). In his free time, Dr. Ruff likes sports, and admits to playing an occasional abysmal game of golf.
